Smalltalk coding for the fun of it
I hold a belief that I have shared with people
one-on-one before. You see, I enjoy writing Smalltalk code. Mostly Squeak, but
hey they all work pretty much the same and all "feel like
home".
Some people think it's
remarkable that I would write Smalltalk code in my spare time. I don't see it
that way. My personal belief is that this is like playing the piano. The more
I "keep up my chops" the better I stay at it. Any musical instrument is like
that. If you play in an orchestra, if you love your "art", you probably
practice at home to get better at it, or to stay "in shape". The same thing is
true for me when it comes to
Smalltalking.
I have a friend who came
to realize that he could gage my mental health by asking me if I'd been doing
any Squeaking. Apparently, when all is well in my world I write a lot of
Squeak. When I'm really stressed or otherwise ill, I do not. It's an
interesting observation.
